Laboratory-based core analysis for the electrical properties of core samples has proved to be a useful tool for obtaining a clearer understanding and a more accurate estimation of oil and gas reserves. This overview of core electrical studies includes a discussion of best practices and a consideration of recent laboratory advances that improve the determination of electrical parameters such as the porosity coefficient, the porosity or cementation exponent, and the saturation exponent.
