The role of mudcake buildup in fracture sealing and wellbore strengthening has been observed and documented in recent literature. However, there is a gap in the literature when it comes to fully understanding the mechanism of mudcake buildup, whether inside the fracture or at its mouth. This study presents an extension to a previously developed model, along with experimental validation, for mudcake buildup at the wellbore wall to capture the basic physics of mudcake buildup inside fractures and the resulting fracture sealing.
