SPE Liquids-Rich Basins Conference - North America

13-14 September 2017, Midland, Texas, USA

Number of conference papers: 26

Day 1
13 September 2017

Session 1: Strategic Decision Making

As industry activity has experienced a rebound from historic lows, operators are regularly dealing with relatively small differentials between breakeven costs and actual commodity prices. This session examines solutions to enable optimization of assets through integration of multiple disciplines, defined sequences of tasks, and the employment of advanced statistical techniques.

Session 2: Liquids and Gas-Rich Basins: Practice and Activity

This session highlights the challenges operators of liquids-rich assets are facing in developing their acreage positions today - specifically: stacked well development, well interference issues, and the use of post-stimulation diagnostics to increase overall economics of liquids rich wells. Case histories will be used to provide examples of practices, challenges, and opportunities for developing unconventional liquids-rich reservoir systems.

Session 3: Production Operations

The high-rate production from multi-well pads in North American liquids-rich basins introduce unique difficulties for artificial lift and facility efficiency. Operators are challenged to minimize pad size, maximize equipment utilization, and optimize artificial lift designs for the initial high rates and steep declines. As a practices, the industry is putting more emphasis on centralized facilities, pipeline utilization and efforts to anticipate artificial lift needs during infrastructure design and planning. Topics in this session include: simplifying wellhead facilities for multi-phase flow, simulation of lateral multi-phase flow, and optimization of gas lift facilities.

Session 4: Integrated Completion and Production Monitoring Methods

The current low oil price environment imposes many constraints on well production and reservoir deliverability potential as the competing goals are to maximize production, but also optimize reservoir energy and deliverability. This session focuses on integrated diagnostic technologies such as advanced logs, microseismic monitoring, pressure transient analysis (PTA), and distributed temperature systems (DTS), to improve completions design for optimized well productivity.
