Given a correct velocity model, high-fidelity subsurface images can be obtained via reverse-time migration (RTM). However, RTM should involve producing common image gathers (CIGs) to assess the velocity model used, thereby fulfilling the prerequisite requirements. This study proposes a novel CIG that spectrally decomposes RTM into frequency-domain (FD) partial images, which dramatically reduces the computation time compared with conventional offset-domain or angle-domain CIG. Without any substantial computation, FDCIG is readily available in FD RTM. This advantage can also be exploited by time-domain techniques using the Fourier transform.
