Acquiring seismic data has typically been an expensive pursuit and acquisition systems are typically not easily adaptable to suit different acquisition scenarios. In this paper we detail the manufacture and performance of an easily adaptable, low-cost, seismic acquisition system using widely available open-source electronic components. Data recorded using the system is comparable to that obtained using a far more expensive commercial seismograph. We aim to develop our design into an open-source seismograph that should enable seismic data to be acquired far more cheaply and thus frequently in the future.
