The paper presents CFD simulations of a platform encompassing heave plates and which is dedicated to floating wind turbine. Forced oscillating tests and decay tests of the floater, along both heave and pitch degrees of freedom, are performed with the CFD tool OpenFOAM. Simulations aim at calibrating and validating drag coefficients for the heave plate, based on a methodology developed for CALM buoys. These coefficients are intended to be used in DeepLinesTMWind, an aero-hydro-servo-elastic solver, combined with potential theory to model the floater behavior. Results show that the methodology, despite developed for CALM buoys, is potentially applicable in modeling floating wind devices, with certain limitations. Results also provide precious insight for the design of the whole system and generation of a database for heave plates.
